Toys R Us LEGO Mini Ghost

I took my boy down to Toys R Us on Saturday for some free Legos. Did you know you can get free Legos at TRU? They have building events to promote different things throughout the year and give kids a small set to build for free! Here was the flyer for Saturday's event:

It was pretty crowded when we went. I asked the guys putting the bags together if they thought it would be busy all day or if we should head back over after we do a little shopping and give it time to clear out. They were concerned that they would run out of supplies so they just handed us our bag and said enjoy!

I actually preferred it that way. My son is only 2, so we take a little longer than most to build together.

This is what we got:

And this is the final product:

I thought it was pretty cute, and my son enjoys building these small sets with me. He's way too young to do them on his own, and he definitely doesn't have the patience or attention span to do any larger sets right now.

I'm not sure how much it looks like the ghost ship it was designed after...

but eh, how much detail can you expect out of just 42 pieces? My son kept calling it a rocket ship, and that sounds just fine to me.

Full disclosure: I had no idea what a "ghost ship" was (I'm not a huge Star Wars fan), so I totally had to google that just now.

Ultimately, we had a really good time. And who can say no to new bricks to add to our small (but ever-growing) collection? I think there's another event next Saturday- a bat signal!

New Beginnings

Well here we are. Starting a new blog is really kind of awkward, don't you think? I mean, there's no one even reading this right now. So who do I write to?

Should I just start off with a bang and jump right into "high quality content-rich articles" to "establish myself as an industry expert" like all the gurus recommend? (har har)

That would be a lie.

Should I give the old sheepish, Hey guys, this is my first post. I'm super excited to share all of my fun LEGO finds with you. Please like and share!

Nope. That's not me.

So how about I start out by telling you WHY I'm starting this silly old blog at all.

The truth is, I never played with LEGO growing up. I guess that means I spent the first 29 years of my life in "the dark ages." When my second child was born a couple of months ago, I turned to online selling to earn some extra income so that I could quit my job and stay home with my kiddos. One item that sells particularly well online just so happens to be LEGO sets.

So I would see these sets I was flipping online, and I just really got the itch to build some. Like really. And I know I'm not the typical LEGO fan, so when my husband chuckled at my desire to build with these little bricks I decided to make it my goal to reach other atypical fans. Maybe I'll even inspire some people to become fans.

Because face it, LEGOs are cool.

And profitable. So expect some tidbits from the business side of things also as I learn more about LEGO investing.

What I hope this site will be:
  • My thoughts on different sets I'm able to build
  • Occasional deals if you want to build some sets of your own
  • Shout outs to people who are doing really awesome things with LEGO
  • LEGO investing tips, tricks, and speculation
  • A little bit of fun
  • My own journey through creating a business around playing with toys

What I hope this site will NOT be:
  • Boring
  • Regurgitated info from other sites
  • Professional advice
Of course all new websites are started with big hopes and dreams. There's no guarantee I'll stay on topic all the time, but I sure hope this will prove to be as enjoyable for you as it will be for me!
